To put it simply, Shayla is a huge fan of human beings! She is in awe of the inherent intelligence that exists in the human body. Her approach is person-centered and holistic, focusing on coping strategies that help to seek balance of mind, body and spirit.
She is passionate about helping adults who are going through life’s stressors and transitions as well as those struggling with worry, anxiety and OCD.
During her 20 years as a counselor, 15 were specifically focused on assisting clients struggling with anxiety disorders. She has extensive experience with teaching and implementing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), and Mindfulness to educate and empower clients to challenge their anxiety and experience symptom improvement.
Her interest in holistic and integrative health occurred after experiencing a sudden and intense health event. While the providers she saw were kind and well intentioned, they could not identify the issue. She quickly realized that we are all just human, we don't have all the answers, and everyTHING does not work for everyBODY. She focused deeply on her relationship with God and integrated holistic lifestyle methods into her life. It was during this time she also became interested in beginning to learn therapy techniques that directly assist the body and mind such as Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) and Somatic Experiencing strategies. She loves learning and is excited to learn more somatic (body) therapies in the upcoming year.
-A Note from Shayla-
Hello Friend! I am so glad you are here because it tells me you are noticing your body, mind and spirit are asking you for some care. Whether it is with me or another provider, I encourage you to listen to that internal call. I believe YOU are the one human on the planet that is the expert of yourself. Some of the answers you are seeking are already within you. My goal is to be a partner and a resource for you. I will meet you where you are without judgment. We will partner together to explore and identify your vision of what feeling better looks and feels like. Then we will embark on a journey toward that destination. One of my favorite things about being a therapist is watching people experience more ease within their mind, body and spirit.
